The "Bear" wins the 13th gold medal for Canada

VANCOUVER - Canada climbed into the Olympic record books Saturday with 13 gold medals, an all-time, all-season best for the country that ties the most top-tier podium finishes by any nation in a Winter Games.
Lucky 13 went to Edmonton curling skip Kevin Martin, who piloted the Canadian rink to a convincing 6-3 win over Norway, the same country that denied him gold eight years ago in Salt Lake City.
After keeping their best poker faces on for the duration of the game, Martin, second Marc Kennedy, third John Morris and lead Ben Hebert jumped for joy when it was over, hugging on the ice as a thunderous ovation rained down from the partisan Canadian crowd.
In terms of gold medals alone, the total gave Canada the record for most gold medals claimed by a host nation at its own Winter Games — previously 10, won by the U.S. in Salt Lake City in 2002 and by Norway in Lillehammer in 1994. Can the mens hockey team break the all time record tommorow?

Son of famous actor found dead in Stanley Park

The body of Growing Pains actor Andrew Koenig, who had been missing since Feb. 14, was found Thursday around noon in a Vancouver park called Stanley Park, police confirmed at an evening news conference. The 41-year-old actor was best known for playing Kirk Cameron’s friend, Richard “Boner” Stabone, on the 1980s ABC sitcom. Koenig was also the son of actor Walter Koenig, who starred as Pavel Chekov on television’s Star Trek: The Original Series. “My son took his own life,” the elder Koenig said Thursday at the emotional press conference. “He was obviously in a lot of pain.” A police spokeswoman said that the department’s investigation will continue and that a cause of death will not be released at the moment. No foul play is suspected.
Before leaving for a trip to visit some friends in Toronto and Vancouver, Koenig, who had a history of depression, moved out of his Venice, Calif., apartment and reportedly sold a number of his possessions in a garage sale. On Feb. 16, Koenig’s parents received a “despondent” note from their son, and the actor missed his scheduled flight back to Los Angeles. Koenig’s parents subsequently reported their son missing on Feb. 18.

Live Cameras from Vancouver Robson Square 2010 Olympics

“Since the Winter Games began, Robson Square has become a hub for celebrating, for gathering and for sharing in the spirit and energy of these Games,” said Premier Campbell. “Hundreds of thousands of British Columbians and visitors have already enjoyed the free activities and entertainment at Robson Square and the B.C. Pavilion. British Columbia is going to keep that spirit going through the Paralympics so thousands more will have the opportunity to get together, cheer on the athletes, and enjoy the Games.”

Robson Square is the hub of free, family activities hosted by the Province of British Columbia during the 2010 Games, including skating at the GE Plaza ice rink, the Robson Square zipline, daily free entertainment and concerts, screens showing events, free admission to the Vancouver Art Gallery and the B.C. Pavilion, and other family activities.

Robson Square will be open for the duration of the Olympic Games until Feb. 28, and then again for the duration of the Paralympics, which run March 12-21.

Global Warming? HUGE Iceberg off the coast of Australia

Australia is known for sunny beaches, surfers, and blistering Outback heat.
So scientists were a bit taken aback when they spotted this giant iceberg floating near an island Down Under.
Australian Antarctic Division researchers were working on Macquarie Island when they first saw the iceberg last Thursday about about five miles off the island. It is rare to see an iceberg floating so far north of Antarctica, researchers said.

Biggest Star on the planet - live long and prosper King Khan !!

SRK KING KHAN STOPS TRAFFIC IN BERLIN CNN BIGGEST STAR ON PLANET EARTH  NET WORTH IS 550 MILLION DOLLARS WITH 4.5 BILLION FANS BEATING TOM CRUISE AND BRAD PITT IN NET WORTH AND NO. OF FANS.

Heard this?? Shah Rukh Khan, the badshah of bollywood is not sitting idle after the success of ‘My Name Is Khan’ and preparing to start superhero flick ‘Ra1’( opposite sexy siren Kareena Kapoor), which will cost around hundred crore rupees. Due to its huge cost, Shah Rukh Khan has decided to produce the film through his own production house Red Chillies for director Anubhav Sinha. However, King Khan’s superhero flick will not be made in English as he wants it to be made only for Indian audiences in Hindi. Earlier, there was some talk of the film being made in English but Shah Rukh Khan shot down the idea as he was not convinced about the viability of making a film in English when they already had their own ‘spider man’ and ‘superman’ etc.

Sources close to Shah Rukh Khan’s production house say that ‘Ra1’ will have breathtaking stunts from King Khan, which will be for the first time not only for him but also for bollywood. The special effects team is being hired from Hollywood to get everything perfect for the gutsy Khan. Shah Rukh Khan has already started working out to prepare himself to be able to perform the daring stunts for the film.

Shah Rukh Khan, who is set to go flying in the sky to save the mankind in ‘Ra1’, will have to fight with ten megalomaniac villains, each representing one head of demon King Raavan. The flick is being made to be a visual treat having action sequences fully matching those of biggies of Hollywood.

Greek Life

David Does Dita

UK-based artist David Downton randomly started fashion illustration in 1996, when he was commissionned by a magazine to draw at the Paris haute couture shows : “It blew me away! I was totally unprepared. Couture really is a parallel universe – I’ve heard it described as the kingdom of indulgence, which is true, but it is also extremely inspiring for an artist or illustrator ; the world’s most beautiful women, designers working without constraint – the sheer theatricality of it all – there is a lot to draw“. Since then, Downton’s works have been featured in Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, Visionaire, The Daily Telegraph. Using a combination of classic techniques, such as watercolor, gouache and coloured inks on paper, he has mastered in celebrity portraits, with a commissioned-portraits portfolio including Dita Von Teese, Erin O’Connor, Anna Piaggi, Lily Cole, Catherine Bailey, just to name a few.

Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir - Go Canada Go !!! GOLD GOLD GOLD !!!!! Yipee

Canadian champions Tessa Virtue of London, Ont., and Scott Moir of Ilderton, Ont., went into a zone, skated on the edge, silenced the capacity crowd with their deft twizzles, and with complex midline footwork. There wasn't a waver in any step. They drained every nuance out of the music. Their lifts were novel.
Virtue's voluminous red skirt flew like a cape as they lived and breathed the flamenco. They delivered their finest moment and earned a personal-best score of 68.41 points, putting them in first place in the original dance and first place overall with 111.15 points.

Virtue and Moir were only 0.26 points off the world record for an original dance set by 2006 Olympic champions Tatiana Navka and Roman Kostomarov of Russia. The crowd roared. They knew it was an Olympic moment.
"I feel privileged to have seen that," said one spectator
